Testing and tagging of all tools, leads and appliances is not only recommended by Worksafe, it is surely the easiest way to ensure that you and your staff are safe from electrical hazards.
Routine inspection of your equipment will remove any dangerous hazards that result from regular use such as bare, damaged cables and faulty earthing. Depending on your premises, office or manufacturing setup, testing is recommended every 6 or 12 months. Bryley Electrical will go through all your equipment, visually inspect them and conduct a quick, electrical test to make sure that it is safe for use. As A-Grade Electricians we can usually repair any faulty item on the spot so that there is no loss to production or efficiency due to an appliance being out of action. We recommend testing of both Single Phase and 3 Phase equipment.
RCD or safety switch testing is also recommended in large installations. There is no point in having these wonderful, life-saving devices if you don’t know whether they work or not.
Test and Tag Intervals: How often should I Test and Tag?
To understand test and tag intervals and how often an electrical appliance should be tested, the main underlying factor is the type of environment that appliance is located in. Just as important is to consider the AS/NZS 3760 standard as a minimum requirement. A lot of workplaces will have different test and tag frequencies because of their own risk management and OHS planning. Likewise, some of these industries have specific requirements such as using certain coloured tags.
For the most common environments, we recommend the following frequencies:
